and emerged with his reputation intact. Blair’s successor as prime minister,
Gordon Brown, lacked the former’s air of relaxed ease in live TV interview
and debate situations. In the run up to the 2010 election campaign, and
during it, Brown attempted to convey his ‘human’ side, being interviewed for
example by Piers Morgan, and revealing his feelings around personal matters
such as the death of his baby daughter. Most commentators agreed that
Brown failed to convince in these situations, as he also failed in the clumsy
use of social networking tools such as YouTube.
