3. MFE GRADIENT DESCENT
Once we have replaced the temporal average with the spatial average, we can intro-
duce the irreversible thermodynamics of the MaxwelleBoltzmann canonic proba-
bility called the NI which is based on two necessary and sufficient principles
observed from the common physiology of all animal brains (Szu et al., c.1990)
1. Homeostasis Thermodynamic Principle: all animals roaming on the earth have
isothermal brains operated at a constant temperature T o ,(Homo sapiens 37 C
for the optimum elasticity of hemoglobin, chicken 40 C for hatching eggs).
2. Power of Sensor Pairs principle: All isothermal brains have pairs of input
.
sensors X pairs for the coincidence account to denoise: “agreed, the signals;
disagreed, the noise,” for instantaneously signal filtering processing.
The thermodynamics governs the total entropy production DS tot of the brain and
its environment that led to the irreversible heat death; due to the never-vanish Kelvin
temperature (the third Neal’s law of thermodynamics) there always was an incessant
collision mixing toward more uniformity and larger entropy value.
DS tot > 0 (3.11)
3.1 UNSUPERVISED LEARNING RULE
DH brain ¼ DE brain T o DS brain 0: (3.12)
This is NI cost function at MFE useful in the most intuitive decision for aided
target recognition (AiTR) at maximum probability of detection (PD) and minimum
FNR for Darwinian natural selection survival reasons.
The survival NI is intuitively simple, flight or fight, with the parasympathetic
nerve system as an autopilot.
MaxwelleBoltzmann equilibrium probability is expressed in terms of the expo-
nential weighted Helmholtz free energy of brain:
H brain ¼ E brain T o S brain þ const. (3.13)
