             What Does Integrity Mean?

             What Does It Look Like?

If you choose to have it (because it is your choice), you

               ■ Adhere to the Western civilization Judeo-Christian code of
conduct with regulations and rules that have repercussions if
                  broken.
               ■ Behave consistent with your values (of course, with this view,
                  thieves have integrity!).
               ■ Do the right thing, not the thing that feels right.
               ■ Are talked about as a good person.
               ■ Do what you say you’ll do, make agreements/commitments and
                  keep them.
               ■ Behave the same in public as in private when no one is looking.
               ■ Do no intentional harm.
               ■ Follow your rules/principles, especially when under pressure.
               ■ Can be trusted to do the right thing no matter what.
               ■ Are not motivated by a fear of being caught.
               ■ Are scrupulously honest; there is never even a suspicion of
                  scandal.
               ■ Obey the law.

It’s easy to read this list and say, “Oh yeah, that’s me.” A test is what
your peers would say if sent an anonymous query. Or, if in a conversa-
tion that you aren’t part of someone is accusatory toward you, and another
speaks up and defends you. “I know Sandra, and she wouldn’t do that.”
There, you have your answer as to what people think about you.
Remember the teaching of your parents—if your parents taught you
             well. (Otherwise, disregard.)

“When I got hired for my first job, my dad sat me down to tell me
what my employer expects: ‘They pay you a salary, and you work for
them the whole time. If you get finished with your work early, find
some additional work. Always be working because they are always
                  paying you.’”
