14 Carrots and Sticks Don’t Work

itation. Moreover, employees are more willing than ever to work
and earn less if it means being able to spend more time with
their families and lead a more balanced life.
In the next chapter we will examine traditional reward and
recognition programs and see how effective they are at motivat-
ing today’s employees.
