t-BUTYL ALCOHOL
o
o
t-Butyl alcohol (melting point: 25.8 C, boiling point: 82.4 C, density:
o
0.7866, flash point: 11.1 C) is a low-melting solid that, after melting,
exists as a colorless liquid.
t-Butyl alcohol is produced by the hydration of iso-butene. The favored
tertiary carbocation intermediate limits the possible alcohols produced to
only this one.
