Those who are decisive, strong-willed, and ambitious tend to
end up in positions of leadership in corporations or to run their
own businesses. They have a sense of urgency, aren’t afraid of
much, and can prod others into action. A tip for those of us who
are a bit afraid of these types: stand up to them and don’t be afraid
to go head-to-head in an argument. They will respect you and
won’t think negatively of you if you assert your opinions. Just keep
it brief and to the point; be prepared, and don’t ramble on.

How to Make Your Natural Talents

and Personal Style Work for You

The categories addressed in this chapter are just a few of the areas
that you will want to take into consideration when looking for
a new career. There is no getting around the fact that if you are
born to lead, you won’t last long in a subservient position with no
chance for advancement or promotion. You’ll soon blow up and
say something inappropriate and then either get fired or quit.
By the same token, if you need peace and quiet to work, you’ll be
miserable in a loud, chaotic workplace. Yes, we can all adapt for
a certain period, but the longer you work in an environment that
isn’t suited to your natural style, the more miserable and stressed
you’ll become. Sometimes the problem isn’t that you are in the
wrong job, but rather it is that you are in the wrong environment.
Managers, take note: the fact that you thrive on one style
doesn’t mean your staff works the same way. You’ll get the best
out of your team by leveraging people’s individual styles. That
