STEP 4: IDENTIFY YOUR NATURAL TALENTS AND ABILITIES 103
Or, you may fall in the middle and need a good balance between
being around others and time alone. If you are around people dur-
ing the day, you may need to hole up at home and prefer not to go
out in the evenings. If you can mix up the right balance between
contact with people and time to yourself, you’ll feel energized
throughout the day.
Rate yourself (you’ll be using a scale of 100 percent through-
out) as to how much you are extroverted and how much you are
introverted. We are all a combination of both, as even the most
extroverted folks still need some time alone on occasion, and the
most introverted need some contact with others. Then ask a close
family member and friend to tell you how they would rate you on
this scale as well, so you can see how others perceive you.

Tactical Versus Strategic Thinker
Tactical thinkers are skillful at handling the present. They are
excellent at getting tasks done quickly and efficiently, because
they are short-term thinkers. They often have difficulty imag-
ining where they will be in life in five years, let alone ten. They
may be so focused on the present that they neglect planning for
the future. Other people are strategic thinkers and can imagine
what the future will hold and the impact their actions today will
have over the passage of time. It depends on whether your brain
is hardwired for the short term or the long term. Certain people
are good midrange planners and think five years or so into the
future. If you are a long-term thinker, then you may also tend
to procrastinate. This is because you feel there is always more
time.
