102 COACH YOURSELF TO A NEW CAREER

Different people have different styles, so some people may not
appreciate that your needs are much different from theirs. We tend
to think, “If I can do it, then so can you.” This mind-set couldn’t
be further from the truth. While some individuals thrive on chaos
and change, others thrive on stability and peace. Some do their
best when they plan for the future and are hopeless with handling
the day-to-day tasks. Others are best surrounded by people and
need variety. As you read through the following five sections, take
a few minutes to jot down your ratings in the spaces provided and
identify your own personal style. For more detailed information
about the computerized assessments, go to Lifecoach.com and
get your own personalized report for a small fee, or consult the
“Resources” section at the back of the book.
With a bit of thought, you can figure out your own personal
style—the way in which you do things. Again, don’t be afraid to
ask a few people who know you well for their input. Here is a pre-
view of the questions to get you thinking:

→ Are you an extrovert or an introvert?
→ Are you a tactical thinker or a strategic thinker?
→ Do you prefer to do one thing at a time or to multitask?
              → Are you hands-on or hands-off?
→ Are you quick to anger or slow to anger?

              Extrovert Versus Introvert

Do you recharge your energy by being alone? Do you feel drained
after being around people all day? If so, then you are more intro-
              verted than extroverted.
Do you feel energized by being around other people and
become stimulated by external events? Do you feel drained or
depressed after working alone all day and get the urge to go out
and socialize? If so, then you are more extroverted and get your
energy from contact with people and from outside activities and
              events.
