Other Laws and Regulations
Several other laws and regulations impact the construction and operation of
interstate natural gas pipelines. Also, most states have their own individual
environmental regulatory and permit processes that closely parallel and some-
times exceed these national level regulations. These include:
l National Environmental Policy Act of 1969
l Federal Water Pollution Control Act (“Clean Water Act”)
l Coastal Zone Management Act
l Endangered Species Act
l Clean Air Act
l National Historic Preservation Act
l The Pipeline Safety Improvement Act of 2002
l The Pipeline Inspection, Protection, Enforcement, and Safety Act of 2006
