Figure 7-6 shows a simple EPC diagram for part of the Fitter expense-reporting
process. EPC diagrams begin and end with events. Furthermore, events must be followed
by functions, and functions must be followed by events.

In addition to direct connection of events to functions, EPC diagrams employ three
types of branching connectors. Branching occurs when logic either comes from more than
one source or proceeds to more than one potential outcome. The three connector types
are AND, OR, and Exclusive OR (XOR). Figure 7-7 shows how the AND connector
functions. The figure indicates that the expense report must be recorded and a hard copy
must be filed.
