DIGITAL VIDEO PHOTOGRAPHY
1
Shoot a scene in sequences, moving from the wide scene shot through
the medium, close-up, and extreme close-up shots. Make sure you
spend enough time with each shot to give yourself ample footage to
choose from when you edit. Then, write a short paper to accom-
pany your footage that explains what you’ve shot, how you’ve moved
through the scene, and why you chose the pieces you did to tell the
story.

Select an event that you think would be worth covering and then shoot
it with your video camera. Find a variety of close-ups, scene setters,
and other varied shots. When you are done shooting, review your video
for strengths and weaknesses. What did you miss? What shots told the
story best? Write a short paper that analyzes your findings. Also include
the medium for which you were shooting. For example, how would
124 ways in which you might have covered this event differently based on
your approach differ if your images were to be Webcast, put on the
nightly TV news, or used as stills for a newspaper or a Web site?
