work is, as with Ong, critical to discussions of Western writing in general but
not buttressed either by example or by empirical observation in sufficiently
close comparison to new media writing to serve as a document of phenomena
in digital modalities. These, I argue, have in fact drawn from existing
communicative practices for the distinctive emergence their own synthetic
form.
