Bringing a new book into the world takes a number of midwives. I did the
writing, but Deep Strengths was born with the help of many other people.
Joe Aberger, president of PRITCHETT, LP, is a steadfast friend and com-
mitted leader whose dedication and talent freed me to go into seclusion, think,
and put words on paper. Dr. Kim Webster played a key role in shaping and
enriching the message, and Sandi Richards helped protect me from getting
reckless in my writing. As usual, though, my wife Patty was the most impor-
tant reader and reality check before I passed the manuscript to my publisher.
Jeanne Glasser, Editorial Director of McGraw-Hill Trade, seized on the idea
of developing our Deep Strengths Research Report into a book. Jeanne, Terry
Deal, Anthony Landi, Seth Morris, and the rest of the McGraw-Hill team
brought great support and have been a genuine pleasure to work with.
Special thanks go to the several hundred CEOs and entrepreneurs who par-
ticipated in our research project. They brought the insider-perspective on the
importance of deep strengths, and I hope this book will help them build these
crucial resources in their organizations.
