26 Suffixes
Suffixes come at the end of words. They help you to understand the meaning of a new
word. Here are some common suffixes.
suffix meaning - : examples
| er, or (noun) person - worker, swimmer, instructor
er, or (noun) 0 2 machine, thing | 1 cooker, word processor
ful (adjective) full of useful, beautiful
ology (noun) subject of study | sociology, psychology
ics (noun, singular) subject of study : economics, politics
less (adjective) without 3 useless, endless
ly | makes an adverb from | sadly, happily
an adjective
ness ~ makes an abstract noun happiness, sadness
from an adjective
y makes an adjective | sandy, sunny
from a noun
He’s a hard worker. He works 12 hours a day.
