22 Enterprise Data Governance
At the time of execution of a supply chain process, depending
on the execution date, the factory employed is different.
1.4.1.2. Context management
Companies work in networks at the international level or
use multiple distribution channels. This ecosystem gives rise
to a number of different management contexts, also called
use contexts. From then on, an IT system cannot limit itself
to working in a fixed context at the time of its design, in the
context of the company that is its owner. It must adapt to the
variations brought about by each of the different use
contexts.
For example, the commercial conditions of a loan are
personalized depending on whether it is proposed by a given
distributor, sales channel or even a country, etc. These
usecontexts change the way in which data is managed. A
single piece of data can have a different value depending on
its use context. For international companies, multi-language
management is an already well-established case of
contextualization. The value of the “product name” data is
different for each country, even though it is in fact the same
piece of data.
1.4.1.3. Version management
The value of each data is relative to a version. It can be a
technical version (for instance a working version), or a
business version (such as a regulation or, for example, a
version of a chart of accounts). A version is created in a more
cunning way than a simple copy and paste of the data.
Indeed, a traceability link between the original version and
the new one is established in order to compare and merge
together data from different versions.
