With the right management of IS assets (master data,
business rules and processes), the IS and IT situation
changes in a radical manner. For companies that do not
understand this quickly enough, this is the same as using
analog data storage systems when their competitors are
using digital systems. In this context, the competitiveness of
a company, one step behind its IT system, is seriously called
into question. A sustainable IT architecture creates a
strategic breakdown. This is not some future breakdown.
The methods and techniques exist to act in this way,
progressively, without a big-bang effect. Our previous book,
“Sustainable IT Architecture” [BON 09], has already shown
certain ways to do this, particularly in the hands of IT
specialists. Among these procedures, it is necessary to
understand that the MDM approach is the launching pad of
the Agility Chain Management System (ACMS), and
therefore of the new control management of IT systems that
we wish companies to have.

At this point in our thinking, it is time to concern
ourselves with business software packages. Are the MDM
approach and the transformation of the IS that we describe
here compatible with software packages?
