                                Taking Software Packages into

                                                    Account












                              The MDM approach  has the same advantages and is
                           based on the same implementation procedures as when a
                           company has business software packages such as ERP, CRM,
                           Supply Chain, etc. Whether software packages are already in
                           place, or whether new ones are acquired to revitalize existing
                           IT systems, it is important not to be locked in these software.
                           The reversibility or easy replacement of software packages
                           must be favored by taking their IS assets into account. These
                           are formed by their reference/master data, rules and process
                           repositories. To achieve this, the software vendors must
                           work towards taking into account this reversibility; it has
                           less to do with the technical than the strategic impact.


                           3.1. The dead end of locked repositories

                              A software package exploits a “locked repository” when its
                           data, rules and processes administration functions are
                           dedicated to its own scope. In the reference and master data
                           domain this means that the software package has an MDM
                           solution that is limited only to its data. We identify this
