Relationships
In Summary
At McDonald’s, relationships run deep. From crew to CEO,
from vendor to licensee, we were and are all in the system
together. We turn to one another for support and insights, and
know that backup is always there. People can excel much more
than they ever imagined if they know they have the encourage-
ment and reinforcement of others who believe in them.
Key Learnings
✔ Determine who in your organization makes up the three-
legged stool—the key stakeholders—and find ways to nurture
those partnerships to best achieve your company’s goals.
Remember, trust is essential in a relationship.
✔ Find the time to really get to know the people with whom
you work. Learn about their motivations and their passions so
57
that you best know how to incorporate and develop their
talents. Take an interest.
✔ Don’t be afraid to befriend those with whom you work
closely, but base those friendships on establishing trust and
working cooperatively toward the organization’s goals.
✔ Build a team culture, a “we” versus “I,” where colleagues
know they can count on one another so that if someone
falters there is always someone there to keep the momentum.
✔ Mentor your people so that they can thrive, not only
professionally, but financially, by addressing quality-of-life
issues.
