In the next chapter, you will take the next step and get a
detailed view of each of these careers. We’re going to do exercises
that will give you a feel for the careers you just listed and what it
would be like to be doing them.
You’ll have the chance to find out the duties, working condi-
tions, qualifications, opportunities, salaries, and more of the 10
jobs you’ve picked so that, as you narrow the list down to just one
career, you are more informed.
You’ll also have a chance to imagine yourself (from morning
to night) actually doing that job for a day and seeing how it might
fit into your entire lifestyle. Most people don’t want a job, however
rewarding, that consumes their entire life to the exclusion of their
health, recreational, spiritual, or family life. Considering other
parts of your life in the exercises we’re going to do will help you
put your new career in perspective and make sure that it’s a good
fit with your personal life and non–work related goals.
