CHAPTER THREE
Testing the Waters
You may have found the exercises in the previous chapter chal-
lenging. But you completed them, and you should be proud that
you’ve taken those brave steps because there are very few people
who take the time to think about what makes them unique. You
now have a list of 10 potential jobs that are ideal for you. That
means that you’re equipped with the knowledge that will help you
make a career choice that will be inspiring. Now that you’ve made
the effort to find your talents and your top 10 favorite potential
occupations, we’re going to see which of those occupations will
best suit your needs.
What do I mean by “needs”? All of us have needs for self-
expression, economic security, career/life balance, stimulation,
relaxation, contribution, and more. It’s essential to gauge whether
or not, and to what degree, those needs are going to be fulfilled in
your occupation so that you’re going to truly love what you do.
To determine this, we’re going to complete four active exer-
cises together that will help you build a sense of whether or not the
job described by that title is really right for you.
Some of the exercises involve reading and
writing while others invite you to actually do or
imagine something.
