142 FEARLESS LEADERSHIP

             • What prevents you from taking this stand? What are you
               avoiding (fears, concerns, repercussions, consequences)?
             • What could you achieve if you took this bold stand and succeeded?

           2. What Is Your Stand about the Connection between How People
           Work Together and Business Results?
Do you believe that how people work together directly impacts business
results? Do your words and actions send a consistent message? Do you
clearly articulate the connection between relationships and business
           results, for example:

             • How we work together determines the results we produce.
             • Relationships are the foundation for business results.
             • Working together as committed partners is how we will achieve
               a new level of performance.
             • How we work together is our competitive edge.
             • Our committed partnership is our key to accomplishment.

           LEADERSHIP ACTION
Declare a Bold Stand and Speak the Future into Existence

With your committed partner or group, share a bold stand with one
another. Remember that speaking is an action: your words shape reality
and influence the results you produce. Taking a bold stand is the act of
expressing your commitment out loud to mobilize yourself and others into
action. Speak courageously with conviction, confidence, and passion.

             • Include the five elements in stating your stand: (1) be open
and talk about your blind spots, (2) call for committed partner-
ships first, and engage people emotionally and intellectually,
               (3) focus the committed partnership on your mission-critical
objectives, (4) learn how to be a committed partner and ask
others to do the same, and (5) leave the group with an inspired
               vision of the future.
             • After you express your stand, ask the group for feedback.
Find out how you impacted the group and ask what would
make your stand more powerful. Also share how it felt for you
