170 FEARLESS LEADERSHIP

           LEADERSHIP EXPLORATION

Where Do You Need to Clean Up and Take Accountability?
Misunderstandings and unresolved conflicts make it impossible to build
committed partnerships unless you clean up first. You must start by ask-
ing, “Where do I need to take 100% accountability for my impact?”
Remember that 100% accountability is not accepting blame; it is the act
of taking charge and adopting an owner’s mindset. Answer the following
questions and identify the actions needed:

             1. Where have I engaged in conspiracies against others?
Where have I actively or silently supported a viewpoint that is
negative, destructive, or damaging to an individual or group?
What individuals and groups do I need to clean up with?
             2. Where have I been trapped in the victim mindset?
Where have I been feeling hopeless, resigned, or frustrated?
Who have I blamed as the persecutor—an individual, a group,
senior leaders, the company? With whom do I need to take
                accountability and clean up?
             3. Who do I need to clean up with? Where have I tolerated a
working relationship that is less than great? Where have I not
taken accountability for resolving issues that are in the way of
building a positive and constructive relationship?

Where Do You Already Have Committed Partnerships,
and Where Do You Need to Build Them?

As a fearless leader, your role is to build committed partnerships through-
out the organization. You must consistently demonstrate your commitment
to high behavioral standards and stop tolerating relationships that are
derailed or insufficient for playing big. As always, engage in this leader-
ship exploration with a partner who is willing to push you and challenge
your thinking. Ask the following questions and identify actions needed:

             1. Who are your committed partners? Whom do you trust
unconditionally on your team, the level below, and the next
level up? Do you stand for each other’s success both privately
                and publicly?
