60 FEARLESS LEADERSHIP

nerships and accountability, and they used this experience as an
example for how any issue could be openly discussed and resolved.
People were visibly moved and inspired by the authenticity of the
two courageous leaders. The environment transformed, and a new
culture began to emerge. Logan is now in his eighth year with the
organization producing strong results and leading a high perfor-
             mance organization.

Lesson Learned. Transparency is a cornerstone of fearless leader-
ship. Instead of deliberately hiding actions, leaders deliberately
reveal their actions. Secrecy disappears, and a higher level of trust,
inclusion, and engagement occurs. Commitment increases dramat-
ically when leaders talk openly and honestly.

THE COURAGE TO CONFRONT YOUR BLIND SPOTS
Fearless leadership starts with you. Intellectually understanding your
blind spots is insufficient. You must be willing to understand your emo-
tional impact on others so you can choose if this is what you want. In other
words, you must take 100% accountability for how you come across with-
out justifying, defending, or explaining. This is easy to understand but dif-
ficult to do because we all have the need to be right, as you will learn in
           Chapter 3.
It takes committed partners to create an environment of trust and
results. Your committed partners are the people you count on to tell you
when blind spots are limiting you, your coworkers, or team. This is infor-
mation you need to have in order to transform an organization. The more
people see you striving to learn and grow and be a better leader, the more
they will follow in your steps.
Transformational change requires the willingness to risk what has worked
in the past to introduce a new leadership era. Bring your fearless leader-
ship—your steadfast resolve and courage to transform your organization.

Identify the Blind Spots That Derail You and Your Team

Answer the following questions, but do not rely only on your opinion. Your
opinion about your blind spots is biased and invalid; what others say is the
