An alternative way to improve the erosion lifetime is to replace eroded mate-
rial with a ‘new’ one. This can be done using one of the following engineering
techniques [8–10]:
l An in situ deposition of new layers on areas subject to particularly strong
erosion using built-in evaporators or sacrificial material introduced in edge
plasma.
