they appear as a serial port on one side and an Ethernet port running a TCP/IP server on the
other. The user hooks their circuit up to the serial port like any other and then connects to their
device over the Internet.
Figure 11-1 shows a few of these embedded Ethernet devices designed to add TCP/IP and
Ethernet capability to an existing device. The two devices focused on in this chapter are the
SitePlayer Telnet by NetMedia and the Lantronix XPort. There are many others out there, and
they’re getting smaller all the time.

Parts and Tools
In this chapter, I show you three ways to get your Roomba on the Net. Which way you choose
affects which parts to get. The usual parts and tools described in Chapter 3 are also needed.
Chapter 3 also covers voltage regulators, RS232 serial transceivers, and other sub-circuits dis-
cussed in these three projects.
