Chapter 11 — Connecting Roomba to the Internet 209

versions of the SitePlayer Telnet were a little buggy. With the firmware released at the begin-
ning of 2006, it became a robust and usable device. You can download all the documentation
about the SPT, as well as read forums of others using the device, at http://siteplayer
                             .com/telnet/.
Figure 11-2 shows what a SitePlayer Telnet module looks like. The two black legs are two
9-pin female headers that plug into a circuit you create. NetMedia also sells a ready-to-run
configuration called the SitePlayer Telnet System, shown in Figure 11-3. Really it’s just a few
connectors on a simple circuit board surrounded by a small aluminum box, but having all that
already done for you is a real time saver. Figure 11-4 shows what the system box looks like on
                             the inside.

                             FIGURE 11-2: SitePlayer Telnet module

Notice that Figure 11-4 contains a 7805 5 VDC voltage regulator. Underneath the SitePlayer
module is a MAX232 transceiver chip, which is also familiar. You could build an exact dupli-
cate of this circuit if you wanted (in fact NetMedia provides the schematic for it). The only
slightly oddball part is the LF1S022, which is a 10base-T filter and RJ-45 jack.
