13.5.3.4 Concluding Remarks
In the chemical and fertilizer industry, understanding effluent characteristics
is very important because of the complexity of the effluent. Praj has devel-
oped a strong research and development backup for the analysis of various
complex effluents. In this particular case, biological treatment was possible
after effectively removing ammonia from the effluent. The present tech-
nique provides steam stripping for effective removal of ammonia. The
SBR is one of the proven technologies for further ammonia reduction
through nitrification and denitrification.
13.6 SUMMARY
In this chapter, some steps toward achieving ZLD have been discussed.
Primarily current ZLD developments are based on evaporation and dis-
charge of solid waste. This chapter also discusses recent advances in efficient
