ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

We want to recognize several people whose ideas and work contributed to this
        second edition of Just Promoted!
Fredric Harwood, Ph.D., was the coauthor with Ed of the first edition of
Just Promoted! The book was first published in April 1992. Ed and Fredric’s
collaboration resulted in a book that had a life span of 18 years in the mar-
ketplace. Just Promoted! helped launch the now-common practice of leader-
ship onboarding. Just Promoted! also became the basis of a new type of
structured executive coaching process called Newly Appointed Leader Coach-
ing, which Ed developed and launched in 1993. We thank Fredric for his orig-
inal work with the first edition and his support for our writing this second
        edition of Just Promoted!
Raymond Harrison, Ph.D., founder and managing director of Executive
TransforMetrics, has been our friend and colleague for close to 20 years. From
1993 to 1997, Ed and Ray worked together as part of Manchester Consulting.
Ray added invaluable ideas and techniques to Ed’s original approaches to the
Newly Appointed Leader Coaching process. Many of Ray’s ideas have stood
the test of time, and several of his concepts have been incorporated into this
        second edition of Just Promoted!
The Institute for Management Studies (IMS) has been highly supportive
of Ed’s work. Through the IMS, Ed has taught the program Navigating Your
Leadership Transitions in many cities in the United States and Canada. For
their support and sponsorship, we extend special thanks to Gordon Peters, Jon
Peters, Cecile Morgan, Stephen Daniel, Joseph Paesani, Mark Pufundt, Ken-
neth and Robbie Verostick, Mark Antonucci, James F. Dowd III, Brendan
Dowd, Jim Henderson, Mark Jesty, Charles Truza, Ginny Von der Schmidt,
Robert Webster, William Woods, Lisa Read Peters, Carlos Hernandez, and
Esther Killam. Special thanks to Joseph Toto, our friend and Ed’s former col-
league at BD for introducing Ed to IMS.
