Jojada Verrips is Emeritus Professor of European anthropology at the
University of Amsterdam. He has written and edited a number of books in
the Dutch language and is currently working on a book entitled The Wild (in
the) West. His main interests are anthropology and religion, anthropology
and (abject) art, aisthesis or aesthetics as an embodied and embedded
phenomenon, anthropology of the senses, blasphemy, cannibalism in the
Western world, maritime anthropology, vandalism, and violence.
Angela Zito, Associate Professor of anthropology and religious studies at
New York University, cofounded and codirects the Center for Religion
and Media there. She specializes in Chinese culture and history, especially
issues of embodiment and practice. She has written Of Body and Brush:
Grand Sacrifice as Text/Performance in 18th-century China (1997) and
coedited Body, Subject and Power in China (1994). She is currently
making a documentary film on calligraphy as self-cultivation in public in
Beijing.
