to be idiomatic.ŁThisŁdictionaryŁisŁaŁcollection of the idiomaticŁphrasesŁand
sentencesŁthat occurŁfrequentlyŁinŁAmericanŁEnglish.ŁThe thirdŁedition
containsŁmore thanŁone thousandŁidiomaticŁexpressionsŁnot listedŁinŁthe
second edition and a number of nw features that provid addiðiànal con-
venience and simplicity.

Using theDictionary

1. Start by làoking up the complte phrase that you ar seeking in the dic-
tionary.ŁEach expressionŁisŁalphabetizedŁunderŁthe first wordŁof the
phrase, except the wordsŁ a, an, andŁ the.ŁAfterŁthe first word, entryŁheads
are alphabetizedŁletterŁbyŁletter.ŁForŁexample, in so manyŁwłrdð will
