The dimensions in plan are 21.0 3 20.8 m, the plan surface is 387.87 m and the
height is 20.54 m. The structure consists of RC slabs supported by beams, that is,
RC frames and RC walls (the internal stairs wall and lift core).
10.4.1 Design
10.4.1.1 Actions
Design of RC slab was performed according to Eurocodes. Actions were obtained
from EN 1991-1-1 (CEN/TC250, 2002b).
Self-weight G1: reinforced concrete 25 kN/m 3
Permanent loads G2: finishing, partitions 2.5 kN/m 2
Variable loads Q: dwellings 1.5 kN/m 2
Wind and seismic actions were neglected because of their minor effect in the
floor slab design. Partial factors for actions and combination values for variable
loads were obtained from EN 1990 (CEN/TC250, 2002a) while partial factors for
materials were taken from EN 1992-1-1 (CEN/TC250, 2004a), see Table 10.3.In
the following, this standard is referred to as Eurocode 2 Part 1.
10.4.1.2 Materials
Since one of the parameters of analysis was RCA quality, two RAC concrete mixes
were chosen from the database on experimental results of RAC beams (Toˇ si´ c et al.,
2016) which had RCA with the lowest and highest water absorption. The other cri-
teria were that 28-day characteristic compressive strength of RAC and companion
