              On  these  bases,  the  finite  element  model  was  applied  to  the  analysis  of  the
            modified  construction  procedure  for  the  railroad  tunnel  for  evaluating  the
            consequent reduction of the surface settlements.
              The  change  in  the  construction  procedure  is  easily  introduced  into  the  finite
            element  analysis  simply  by  refining  the  mesh  at  the  tunnel  shoulders  and
            assigning  the  property  of  the  grouted  soil  to  a  larger  number  of  elements  with
