deposits, mainly formed by Scaglia Rossa and Maiolica cobbles, occur
extensively on calcareous slopes (Coltorti et al., 1979; Dramis, 1983; Coltorti
and Dramis, 1988). The alluvial terraces also refer to the glacial periods; they are
placed at different levels over the valley bottom and are often inter-bedded with
slope deposits; three main levels are found in the area but the number can vary
according to local conditions.
Lacustrine deposits are found in correspondence of intra-mountain basins; they
can reach thickness of 100 m and are formed by more or less regular alternances
of conglomerates, clays and sands; they are dated lower-middle Pleistocene.
