in the flux path. As the power factor decreases, other voltage-reducing losses come
into play caused by stator leakage reactance and by the component of the stator mag-
netomotive force which has a directly demagnetising action.
In practice the voltage is restored to normal by increasing the excitation, and it
will be seen that the lower the power factor, the more excitation is required, thus
increasing the amount of heat dissipated in the field windings. A typical gas turbine
generator package is shown in Fig. 2.2.4.
