To the south of Marlin lies the Halibut oil field. It too is an unconformity
trap in westerly-dipping Latrobe Group reservoirs, sealed at the subcrops by
the Lakes Entrance Formation. A constant oil/water contact was found at
2396 m, unaffected by a fault that terminates at or below the unconformity
surface. Close to the west of Halibut, a new accumulation of oil was found
(Thornton et al., 1980) in younger Latrobe Group reservoirs that are also
