116B RE-ENGAGE
: “The region is managed by obnoxious pigs that don’t care about
anyone but themselves. The sooner I find another job away from
here, the better off I’ll be!”
Weak and incompetent managers
: “In a nutshell . . . we’re a group who has become slightly jaded due
to the fact that our supervisors commit to too much and can’t say
no, and, as a result, we’re spread thin.”
: “A majority of the frontline leadership know little about what is
happening and have very little to offer when it comes to decision
making. They are clueless on how to implement new technology to
increase productivity.”
: “My particular department has an ineffective management team who
are uncaring to the hourly employees within the department. My im-
mediate manager has poor managerial skills—she is unreliable and
slow in responding to our needs/questions/concerns. She avoids any-
thing confrontational and is even two to three months late in giving
annual evaluations. She has poor follow-through with everything.”
Good Employer . . . Bad Manager
There were many comments indicating that employees are willing to
overlook the negative effects of a direct manager if they have generally
good feelings about the company and/or senior leaders. They seem
to have decided to stay with their employers, not because of, but in
spite of, their direct supervisors. One can only wonder how much more
engaged they would be with more competent and caring immediate
supervision.
: “Company rocks; can’t stand my supervisor. Getting promoted has
been harder than I was first led to expect. I love the company. I do
not like working for my direct supervisor.”
: “My immediate supervisor will be changing after January 1. We
are not a good match together. I respect most other people I have
worked for/with.”
