        Employee Engagement

The Key to Building a Best Place to Work

The best companies now know, without a doubt, where productivity—
real and limitless—comes from. It comes from challenged, empowered, ex-
cited, rewarded teams of people. It comes from engaging every single mind
in the organization, making everyone part of the action, and allowing
everyone to have a voice—a role—in the success of the enterprise. Doing
so raises productivity not incrementally, but by multiples.

        : MARY: FEELING THE DIFFERENCE

As a single mom supporting two children, Mary needed reliable work
that helped her make ends meet. Before starting at her latest employer,
Mary never felt much satisfaction in her work beyond the paycheck.
“To me,” Mary reflected, “work was just something you had to do in order
to enjoy the other parts of your life. It never occurred to me that work could
be a place where I could have fun, be valued for what I do, and feel like I’m
        really making a contribution.”
