Job Enrichment and Professional Growth C201

: “They do not seem to promote women.”
: “Promotions seem to be based on the time put in rather than previ-
ous experience in the industry. The company rewards and promotes
those who have been with the company the longest, although they
may not be the best leaders or managers for the job. Also, there is
not much room for growth or promotion in many departments.”
: “I have been a top performer for over two years now. However, I
have been overlooked for a promotion time and time again. I wouldn’t
normally complain, but the people who move up ahead of me are al-
ways a friend of the big boss or brother-in-law of a senior manager.”

Lack of alignment of employee and organizational
           needs

: “I receive very little job satisfaction from my work here. I believe
that is more of a reflection on my own goals and career path, which
does not match well with the position I currently hold.”
: “I have been employed with this organization for seven years. I
feel undervalued and that there is not effective communication be-
tween management and employees. I feel that my job description
is not aligned with my job performance matrix.”
: “They need to put more emphasis on professional development and
career goals. Find ways to match them with the goals of the com-
pany. I see the same people staying in the same positions for long
periods of time, and I would not like to be one of them. Even if I
like this company and would like to stay, I can’t picture myself in
              the same position forever.”
: “There is no democratic process in this company. Sometimes co-
workers can choose their career path within the company, and they’re
allowed to do so. While at other times (especially with me) they do
not allow us to change roles within the organization, and thus it
does not align with my career goals or interests. The reason I have
been given is that I have to prove myself. I have worked for this
company for about three years, and I have worked as hard as anyone
else, but I was neither rewarded nor allowed to change my role.”
