August 2016 Fuji Keizai survey of the Japanese domestic market for energy
management systems (Fuji Keizai, 2016).
Also impressive was the JEC survey concerning the “smart house” market,
another segment that is a core element of the smart community. Table 21.2
shows that the JEC’s results indicated that Japan represented over half of
2011’s total global value of JPY 150 billion. The survey also revealed that
Japan had held this share in 2015, when the total global sales had doubled to
JPY 301 billion. Projections for 2020 indicated that Japan’s share would
decline to just below 40% as the total market enlarged to JPY 990 billion.
