project to plant trees along the “corridor.” This “corridor” stretches from the
coastline close to the Carara National Park up to the Potenciana Mountain
Range and peaks with Turrubares Mountain. They plant trees in a relatively
small region, about 12 miles of amazing biodiversity.
What follows is a report on many areas of interest in Costa Rica, some for
their projects in sustainability and the others for the attractions that they pose
to the tourists. By all means this is not a complete list. There are many more
areas in this relatively small country.
SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES AND AREAS OF INTEREST
Northern Areas
Cano Negro refuge is a 10,000-acre area that is a remote tropical everglade
with a large network of rivers and wildlife. Hundreds of bird species, river
turtles, caimans, jaguars, ocelots, giant anteaters, monkeys, and many more
animals are found here.
Northwestern Areas
One of the major ecotourism destinations is Monteverde. It is located in
Cordillera de Tilaran at about 4- to 5-h drive northwest from San Jose.
