            Most scanning densitometers are suitable for use with both TLC plates and also electrophoretic stains,
            and can deal with objects (plates or gel sheets) 200 x 200 mm in size. The spot can be monitored by
            either reflected light, emitted light, or transmitted light. The wavelengths available range from 190 nm
            to 800 nm and scanning speeds as fast as 100 mm/s are available. The spatial resolution can be selected
            from 25 to 200 mm. A diagram of the optical layout is shown in Figure 12.3.
