Thin Layer Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy
On-line TLC/MS systems must invariably involve either a transport procedure or an in situ desorption
ionization interface. An interesting tandem system, recently reported by Gusev et al. [9], is the
combination of the time of flight mass spectroscopy with thin layer chromatography using matrix
assisted laser desorption. This technique takes advantage of the unique possibilities that time of flight
mass spectroscopy can offer for this type of sample ionization, and was emphasized when the time of
flight mass spectrometer was discussed in chapter 2.
