Another fused silica capillary, 530 µm I.D. and 800 µm O.D., was also inserted coaxially into the
nebulizer central glass tube, around the CE capillary. This outer capillary only extended to the joint
with the nebulizer gas tube. The maximum distance between the ends of the CE capillary and the outer
make-up capillary was 18 mm. The other end of the outer capillary was sealed in a stainless steel tube
(1/16 O.D.) that was connected to a stainless steel T. The coaxial sheath-flow (10 mM sodium chloride)
was supplied through the outer capillary.

Metallothionein (MT) is a small, metal-binding protein, the mass of which varies from under 6000 to
7000 Da, and contains 61 amino acid residues, 30 of which are cysteine. In most animal species MT can
take two forms (MT1 and MT2 ) that are different in charge due to amino acid composition. Up to
seven divalent transition ions, usually, zinc, cadmium and copper, can bind to metallothionein through
metal-thiolate bonds. Ferritin is one of the major iron storage proteins with a mass between
