Agendas
Like many other training tools, an agenda is valuable in announcing your intended ses-
sion outcomes or goals. By creating a listing of topic areas to be addressed during your
session you can paint a visual picture of the program format and content for yourself
and participants. At the same time, you can raise the level of anticipation that learners
have about what will be covered.
When developing an agenda, you may want to leave times off of participant copies
rather than locking yourself into specified time slots. This allows you to adjust time
spent on sections of material and activities as necessary. Otherwise, someone in the
group is likely to watch the clock to ensure that you are on schedule. This can distract
him or her from learning and will likely result in a negative comment on program eval-
uations concerning your ability to facilitate effectively. One strategy related to time is to
let participants know up front that times for each activity and topic are flexible based
