What are some additional rewards that you can think of for use in your sessions?
MOTIVATION KILLERS
You have many chances to identify learning opportunities and apply them in your ses-
sions. If done properly, you can establish an atmosphere in which learning is encour-
aged and individual intrinsic learner needs are met. Trainers, however, do things that
turn learners off and stifle their desire to be in a session, to participate actively, or to
learn. Take a look at the following list and use it as a checklist of things NOT to do in
your sessions.
Ignoring the learning needs and preferences of your participants
Failing to focus on all three learning modalities
Addressing only one or so of the eight intelligences
Using negative communication and feedback skills
Incorporating threats, intimidation, or coercion into your session
Giving inappropriate rewards or recognition
Leaving participants out of the learning process
Limiting opportunities for creativity
Being unenthusiastic about the environment, learning, or your topic
Not connecting with learners on a personal level
Acting hesitant or resistant to learner input
Inadequately preparing or practicing for your session
Using outdated or inaccurate information in your session
