changing names to protect the ignorant!). They should incorporate as many of the ses-
sion elements as possible into their story. Give each group 5 minutes to tell their story.
You may want to hold a vote and give prizes for the most creative story and the story
including the most elements from the training session. Give all learners candy or other
small prizes for their efforts and have a joint round of applause from participants.
Singing Along
Similar to storytelling, form teams and have each team develop a rap or other type of
song using elements of session material. Give groups 30 minutes to develop their song
and 5 minutes or less to sing it as a group. Vote on the most creative and the version
including the most information from the session and award prizes. Give applause.
Bright Ideas Page
If you included a Bright Ideas (Figure 10-1) page at the end of your handouts, have
learners turn to that page. Ask them to spend 5 minutes reviewing material and listing
any ideas or concepts that they wish to think about further or try on the job. Once they
finish, form groups of four to six participants and spend 15–20 minutes sharing what
they have written with one another. Have them also discuss how the ideas can be
applied to their workplace or other environments. Following their discussion, lead a
group discussion on which points they thought were valuable. Add anything they for-
got or omitted and explain how it is useful in a variety of situations.
Flash Card Review
Before your session begins, list key session concepts on poster board flash cards. Cards
measuring 8 × 20 inches work well and allow large lettering (keep your words to a min-
imum without sacrificing comprehension). You can later hold these up for your group
or you can put either Velcro or magnetic strips on the back, as described in Chapter 8.
With such backings you can either display on cloth boards or magnetic backed easels
or dry erase boards.
Form two equal teams of learners (e.g., left side of the room and right side). As you
show the first term, designate one team to call out as many program-related terms or
concepts as they can think of. Next, have members of the other team call out as many
applications or uses in the workplace for the term or concept. For the second and sub-
sequent terms keep reversing the roles of the two teams so that they call out terms one
time and applications the next. Reward teams at the end.
Touting Benefits
A good way to generate future selling points for your programs, while having learners
reflect and review, is to have them generate a list of benefits received. These benefits are
