Consciousness Leads to Unconsciousness 135

WHY I DON’T USE THESE TOOLS

These methods of thinking have become second nature to me. Because
I have used them so regularly for so many years, I usually think this
way without using them consciously. I almost always ask better ques-
tions, not always to the applause of my wife and others around me. I
love looking at many possible solutions to any given problem, and I
love thinking of lots of ideas very quickly, so 100 MPH Thinking as a
formal tool is no longer necessary for me. I also love to find inspiration
for ideas in out-of-the-way places, which makes Intergalactic Thinking
unnecessary in its codified form. As for 180° Thinking...hey, I’m a
child of the ’60s, I’ve always been counter to everything.
But when I’m stuck, when a fresh idea doesn’t come to me easily,
BAM! That’s when I take one of these powerful tools out of my think-
ing arsenal and blow the problem away.
Okay, I admit it. I do use these tools. On the bad days I do. But
because I live them...well...I simply don’t need to use them con-
sciously and purposefully as much. And if you use them regularly, you
won’t have to use them so intentionally, either.

                   CONSCIOUSNESS LEADS TO UNCONSCIOUSNESS

You know what they say about an athlete when he or she just can’t
miss? When a basketball player can’t miss a shot, they say he is uncon-
scious. When a tennis player puts every ball in just the perfect spot, they
say she is unconscious. Well, that is the endgame of all this consciousness
we’re trying to get you to embrace with these concepts and practices:
When you really, really get it all down pat, you won’t have to think
                   about it at all.
If you feel like reading a bit more, just remember to use the tools as
soon as you can. The remainder of this book is designed to help add
