MICROSOFT IN THE HEAD ON THIS ONE
To point out the amazing degree to which the term creativity is misun-
derstood, when you look up the word creative in Microsoft Word’s the-
saurus, these are the synonyms you may choose from: aesthetic, lovely,
poetic, elegant, artistic, beautiful, decorative, musical, and patterned.
Well, if Microsoft says creative means aesthetic, lovely, poetic, ele-
gant, artistic, beautiful, decorative, musical, and patterned, that must
be what the word means, right? You tell me. Did you pick up this book
to become more aesthetic, lovely, poetic, elegant, artistic, beautiful,
decorative, musical, and patterned? I didn’t think so. Not that people
don’t buy books to become aesthetic, lovely, poetic, elegant, artistic,
beautiful, decorative, musical, and patterned. I may have a few such
books at home on my shelf. But did I expect these books on aesthetic,
lovely, poetic, elegant, artistic, beautiful, decorative, musical, and pat-
terned to make me more creative?
“They’re only words,” you may say. But most of us use words to
define what we understand and believe, and if we’re using all the
wrong words we’re making it really hard to change our limiting beliefs.
