Since education is considered to be an extremely important avenue for the
development and implementation of sustainable construction, there are many projects
which choose an educational outlet for one of the innovation in design credits. This
type of activity must be unique and sustainable, not simply a one-time lecture or event.
The importance of education has been further emphasized in the LEED for Schools
rating system for K–12 schools as adopted in 2007. In this rating system a credit point
had been added to the Innovation in Design category which specifically addresses
             continuing education opportunities.

             Special Circumstances and Exemplary Performance
One of the variables which must be determined for each project and which must be kept
consistent throughout the credits in a LEED submittal is the size and location of the
project site. It has been noted that there may be exceptions to this for special circumstances
such as campus settings. Since campus and multiple-building projects may have varying
boundaries depending on the phases of construction, additional LEED guidances have
been developed to aid in the project interpretations for several credits. Likewise, many
projects have other unique criteria that may not fit well into the credit intents and
requirements as listed in LEED-NC 2009.
There is no EP point available for this credit subcategory as this credit subcategory
is the repository of the EP points from other credit subcategories.

7.2 ID Credit 2: LEED Accredited Professional

             USGBC Rating System
LEED-NC 2.2 lists the Intent, Requirements, and Potential Technologies and Strategies
for IDc2 as follows, and is essentially not changed for LEED 2009:

                Intent
To support and encourage the design integration required by a LEED-NC green building
project and to streamline the application and certification process.
                Requirements
At least one principal participant of the project team shall be a LEED Accredited Professional (AP).
                Potential Technologies and Strategies
Educate the project team members about green building design and construction and
application of the LEED Rating System early in the life of the project. Consider assigning
the LEED AP as a facilitator of an integrated design and construction process.

             Considerations and Exemplary Performance
IDc2 has been designated as a construction phase submittal. Mainly, this is done because
the LEED Accredited Professional should participate in all aspects of the project
including construction. There is no EP point available for this credit.

        7.3 Regional Priorities
The regional priorities category allows for additional points for obtaining certain credits
that are considered to be priorities in the region where the project is located. These
regional priorities have been established with input from the USGBC chapters around
