next to these open spaces has appropriate features such as etching to lessen these
concerns. If there are special circumstances or considerations for any of the cases, a
narrative must be submitted describing these circumstances. A point may be given for
exemplary performance in the Innovation in Design category if it can be demonstrated
that any of the three case requirements for open space are doubled. This means the
following for each case:
• For Case 1, exceeding the local zoning’s open-space requirement for the site by
50 percent
• For Case 2, providing vegetated open-space areas adjacent to the building that
are equal to double the building footprint when the project has no local zoning
requirement
• For Case 3, providing vegetated open space equal to 40 percent of the project
site area when no open space (zero) is required by local zoning code
For the exemplary performance case, each case has the following sets of equations
which are also summarized in Table 2.5.2 along with the regular credit criteria equations.
Case 1 Exemplary Performance One exemplary performance point may be earned on
most sites if

or, on urban sites where SSc2 is also earned,
OS + VR + PED25LS ≥ 1.5(OSZONE/100)A (2.5.12)
